Donald Trump will send Hundreds of Federal Agents to Several US Cities

US President Donald Trump has said that a large number of Central Security Forces members will be sent to several US cities to curb crime.

As the violence escalated, the Republican president decided to send the members to two more Democrat-populated cities, including Chicago.

But there has been controversy over the deployment of security forces in Portland and Oregon. Local officials say this has caused more concern during the ongoing protests.

In the November election, Mr. The development of the law and order situation could be a big issue in Trump's re-election.

Protests have erupted in several US cities since the May 25 death of unarmed black George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The protests have also created anarchy in several cities.

Under such circumstances, gun violence has increased in metropolitan cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago and Milwaukee.

What is Operation Legend?

The program is named after a four-year-old boy named Legend Telefero. The child was shot in the face while sleeping at home in Kansas last June. The baby's mother was present during the president's announcement on Wednesday.

The U.S. Department of Justice said members of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, the FBI, the Marshalls Service and other federal agencies will work with local law enforcement agencies on the operation.

Mr. Trump said the violence has shaken the nation's conscience.

Complaining that Democrats are weak in crime control, the president said, "In recent weeks there have been attacks on the police department, and there has been a radical movement to overthrow it."

He blamed the "massive increase in incidents of shootings, killings, assassinations and heinous violence".

“The bleeding must stop,” he said. "This bleeding must stop."

"After this, no mother and her dead child will have to walk around. Politicians have not taken any measures to protect their neighbors and the city before," he said.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr, who is Mr. Present with Trump, he said, they sent about two hundred federal agents to Kansas City and Missouri. A further number of agents will be sent to Chicago and about 35 to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

More than 60 million will be allocated to recruit more police officers to the violence-hit cities.

Mr. Barr said an expanded branch of the central law enforcement force would be involved in the "fight against crime." This will be done in the same way that Homeland Security agents were hired to “control riots and violence” in Portland.

The Attorney General took similar steps to bring crime under control in seven cities last December.

What is happening in those cities?

On Tuesday night, federal agents fired tear gas, pepper spray and grenades to disperse protesters in Portland. Protests have been going on for 54 days in Portland.

Agents have been accused of traveling in plain clothes in military uniforms in major Oregon cities and illegally arresting many protesters.

Chicago Mayor Laurie Lightfoot has confirmed that federal agents will work to strengthen the local police force in her city.

"We welcome the partnership, but we don't want exclusive control," Ms. Lightfoot said at a news conference. He warns that the kind of action that federal officials have taken in Portland should not apply to them.

In the latest incident, 14 people were killed in a shooting outside a building scheduled for a funeral. This is thought to be a gang-related incident.

The city has a 34% increase in homicides compared to last year, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

According to a 2016 FBI survey, the crime rate in Albuquerque is 3.8 times higher than the national average. The number of murders and rapes that year was twice the national average.

According to the Kansas City Star, the city has the highest number of homicides in 2020. In Kansas City alone, there have been 110 homicides so far. As many as 50 more homicides have been reported in the entire metro area.
